A special sunset

Children, sand and a setting sun
All laughing
Swaying
swinging
Twittering birds  in droves
Eager  to return to  hungry nests
Mothers sharing proud smiles
Watching
little feet conquer
minor milestones with ease.
Nature smiling all around
basking in these blissful scenes

All
Except

One tiny son of God
Who waits in the shadows for the sunset
A young mother
holding him tight
More anxious than her child
For a huge spelling mistake
is embedded on his little face
Half hidden under a monkey cap
Yet visible on a second glance.

They stand in silence
Waiting
With little  jigs of innocence
For his childhood to begin…
Once the sand is free
And the swings empty
And the birds flown home.

Waiting
For a few laughter-filled moments
Away from the cruel spotlight
that shadows them everywhere

Waiting
For darkness
To come out of the shadows.
