Gloom

His shadow looms

just behind a waking thought

A walking shroud

A silence that moves

a festering corpse that talks

He surveys the room

where laughter had reigned

only moments before

now empty and bare

fleeing images, desolate walls

Only I remain

 but not alive enough

to swallow the blame

All it took was a word astray

To stab a joy, to tighten the noose

that was always there around a bowed neck

like a covert necklace or an invisible web

Now sprung to life, it has killed the muse

proving that the sun was only a ruse

He surveys his win over words and smiles

over doomed worlds of light

A stifling cloud of darkness

over some frivolous songs of life.
