The first poem

In the beginning that no one knew
was the beginning
she stood near the river
then knelt to scoop some water
two fishes swam
a bird sang
a tree shed some flowers

and she saw him from the corner of her eye
watching her
though she moved a little away
when he bent down to assuage his thirst,
she saw two reflections merge

And before she knew it,
before either could breathe,
a poem flowed
through her veins
causing ripples in still waters
