April calls for a poem a day

A poem a day

1. April in verse

For the love of this month
and the love of poetry
a bloom of late winter petunias I gather
a song too before some streams fall silent
in the summer loo (shamal)

Odds and ends of a school term
a smell of a new book

A blade of fresh green
from fields of  eight and ten

Beads of condensed vapour from dawn’s gray glasses
A pitcher of cold reality from the deep freeze
Summer tones from a bright tomato-corn-fusilli salad
warm thoughts from musical tandems playing out in silence
A few droplets of rain trickling on a page turning into a poem

All random bits of past seasons  I gather
to embroider a strong April from  some frayed strings
