Frame of no-return

A crooked wall hangs behind an image
The frame leans at an awkward angle
afraid to touch it

The picture has a crease
that clutches at a far away thought

A Monalisa smiles
and frowns depending on the light

The waves have been stunned by
a whiter flash of light and
the sun stopped from sliding into
darkening waters

the serenity of sand trampled by bare heels
which have slipped into sandals and sauntered off

The wind has rushed into the frame too
surprising a palm sheaf
nodding to its shadow

The wall sways in a fleeting blur of wetness
and the waves dash against memories
lying hidden under several dry summers

Behind this wall lies the open door
that beckons and beckons
but one can’t leave
