Stirring A Dawn

a dry twig
stuck in potting soil
tender green is a distant dream

fingers dipped in spume
drag across a crimson dawn
night dew seeps into stalks

grey smoke curls into ringlets
on the fringe of daybreak
cats come home

a sun waits attired in gold
for a window sash to lift
the first light sifts through coffee beans

Curtained eyelids rummage
through the spoils of night
humming a fragmented rhapsody

a dream returns to a tender sleep
to hug its secret leaves leaving
a dry twig
